Surviving your half-marathon training
Last updated: Wednesday, February 01, 2012 PrintHave you always wanted to run a half-marathon – but you battle to get beyond the 10k distance?
As South Africans, we are extremely lucky to have a plethora of beautiful half-marathons to choose from, one of which is the upcoming Safari Half-marathon in Wellington on 1 May 2012. How about making this your goal and getting some expert advice from the Sports Science Institute of SA (SSISA), to get you there.
The SSISA, New Balance and Safari, are hosting a highly informative and fun workshop, entitled ‘Surviving your Half-marathon training’, which aims to assist runners with their preparation for this year’s race, as well as provide excellent, expert advice for any runner training for half-marathons.
The workshop will be held at the SSISA’s stunning conference centre in Newlands, Cape Town on Thursday 23 February 2012.
Prices to be won
Our speaker line up includes consultant Sports Scientist and scientific editor of Runner’s World magazine, Dr Ross Tucker, who will help you devise an effective training regime and briefly discuss running shoes and SSISA’s resident dietician, Karlien Smit who will explain how to optimise your eating plan when training.
We have also invited two fun-loving, eager SSISA trained, half-marathon runners , Val Phillippou and Shaun Bouchier, – who will chat about what worked and what didn’t in their half-marathon training; their high and lows and what kept them focused, motivated and inspired.
Registration kicks off at 17h45 with presentations commencing promptly at 18h00. The evening will end with a lucky draw with excellent prices from New Balance, Safari and the SSISA up for grabs. Light snacks and a cash bar will be available. The workshop fee is R40 per delegate.
Training is three times a week
