Nettle has been used in Greece as a medicine since ancient times.
Nettle was used by herbalists for the treatment of cough, tuberculosis, arthritis and to stimulate hair growth.
Traditionally the tough fibers from the stem have been used to make cloth, nettle leaves were cooked as vegetables and eaten due to their high nutritional and iron content.
In recent times it has been found to be effective for Prostate Enlargement, Arthritis and inflammation.

Health Benefits
Nettle contains polysaccharides (complex sugars) and lectins. They are thought to be the primary active constituents in Nettle.
The main action of nettle is that it prevents the body from making inflammatory chemicals known as prostaglandins. Strong anti-inflammatory actions of the leaf has been found in test tube studies.
These anti-inflammatory effects have been the reason why, nettle is often used for arthritis or hay fever by herbalists.

Nettle’s root has other actions that affects the proteins and hormones that carry testosterone or estrogen in the human body. This action has been investigated in some limited clinical trials, that suggest benefit of nettle root extract for men with mild forms of Prostate Enlargement.

Side effects?
Nettle does have possible side effects.
These may include mild gastrointestinal upset in some people, though this is rare.
If fresh nettle makes contact with the skin, it can cause a rash.
Nettle is considered safe during breast-feeding or during pregnancy.

Nettle does not have any known negative interactions with medication.

Where does Nettle come from and what parts are used?
Nettle grows in most temperate regions of the world.
The root and leaves of nettle is used for medicinal purposes.

How much is usually taken?
A normal safe dose is two to three 300 mg nettle leaf capsules or tablets.
Prostate Enlargement symptoms normally require 120 mg of a concentrated root extract in capsules two times per day
Traditionally 2–4 ml tincture taken three times per day, has been used.
