How to exercise your mind
Last updated: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 PrintIf you've been lamenting that your memory isn't what it used to be, take heart. Memory is a skill that can be sharpened and improved at any age, according to Connecticut College.
Give your brain a regular workout by:
- Focusing: paying attention and concentrating will help you remember.
- Saying it again: repetition helps stamp things into your mind.
- Writing it down: it reinforces thought.
- Playing games: do word searches, crossword puzzles and play trivia.
- Learning new tricks: take up a new hobby, or study a language.
- Following a scheme: keep a calendar and check it often.
- Munching on memory foods: fruit, vegetables and grains are rich in memory-boosting antioxidants.
- Tuning into music: it nourishes your brain.
- Getting moving: regular exercise improves oxygen flow to your brain.
