Abscesses

An abscess is an accumulation of pus and can occur anywhere in the body. Abscesses are commonly found in the following places: face, neck, groin, arm pits, legs, scalp and mouth.

Burns

Burns result from scalding, fire, electricity or chemicals. They can be minor and can be treated at home, or serious, in which case you should see a medical practitioner.

Cuts, abrasions and bruises

Most small wounds can be treated successfully at home. The aim of first aid is to promote healing and to minimise the risk of infection.

Fungal infections

Superficial fungal infestations may affect the skin and nails. Fungal infections may occur all over the body.

Insect bites - children

Insect bites are a common problem in children and may be difficult to diagnose.

Scabies

Scabies is caused by tiny mites that tunnel into the skin and lay their eggs in the burrows. Intense itching occurs a few days later, when the mites hatch.

Warts

Warts are caused by human papilloma viruses, of which more than 80 types are known. Warts are more common in children than adults, and most warts will disappear over time.
