Here's your chance to contribute to science – and possibly learn a bit more about how your body works.
STUDY 1:
Do you want to know more about your current cardiovascular disease risk and health status?

UCT’s Department of Exercise Science and Sports Medicine (ESSM) is doing a study on various factors that contribute to over-all health, specifically looking at the health status of blood vessels.
You can participate in this study if you are a HEALTHY woman between the ages of 18 and 40.
By the end of your participation, you will know your resting metabolic rate, body-fat distribution, risk for diabetes, and we will have some information regarding the responsiveness of your blood vessels.
You will be required to visit the Human Biology Department at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa in Newlands (3rd floor) on three occasions.
The first visit will give you the opportunity to learn more about the study, ask questions, and if you are interested, to sign an informed consent form and complete several questionnaires telling us more about yourself.
The second visit will consist of testing the responsiveness of your blood vessels. This involves measuring blood flow using an imaging technique (no needles).
On your third visit, your body-fat distribution will be determined and your resting metabolism measured (resting while lying down while the air that you breathe out is measured), after which you will be asked to undergo a single blood test to measure glucose and insulin levels.
You will receive all of your results, and will be reimbursed for your time and travel expenses. If you are interested, please contact the researcher on or before the 30 September 2008:
