Participate in a study investigating how environmental and genetic factors contribute to being overweight and the complications of being obese (e.g. heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol).

The study is conducted by the Department of Human Biology at the UCT/MRC Research Unit for Exercise Science and Sports Medicine in Cape Town.
Who can participate?
White South African women (black women already tested)
18 - 45 years of age
Overweight or obese (BMI > 25/m2)
You will not be included in the study if you are currently undergoing therapy for diabetes, hypertension, HIV or other metabolic disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
What is required of you?
You will be required to complete two testing sessions (of approximately 1 hour and 30 min. each) at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa in Newlands.
