There has been a recent outbreak of avian influenza in Indonesia. On 12 July, a 38-year-old father of two daughters died after contracting the virus.
Drugs currently available for the prevention and treatment are amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir and zanimivir. However, it is believed that the virus is resistant to these drugs.

People in Indonesia are urged to live as hygienically as possible and avoid contact with sick animals. Poultry should only be bought from trustworthy outlets and should be thoroughly cooked.
