About Malaria

What is malaria?

Malaria is an infection of red blood cells caused by a single-celled parasite, almost always spread by the bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito.

Cause of malaria

There are four parasite species that cause malaria.

Symptoms of malaria

The first symptoms are usually very similar to ‘flu – aches and pains, fever, headache and so on.

Diagnosis of malaria

Certain signs indicate the possibility that someone has malaria.

When you need to see the doctor

If you've been to a malarial area and develop certain symptoms, it's best to have it checked out.
