How often do we need to be tested for hypertension?
Last updated: Friday, October 15, 2004
The older a person gets, the more regularly hypertension should be tested for. Once someone is over the age of 65, annual testing is recommended. In middle-aged people once every two years should be sufficient. Testing of blood pressure is usually part of the routine procedure whenever one visits the GP. There are no possible disadvantages to regular testing. (Professor Lionel Opie, Cape Heart Centre,UCT)
