High blood pressure is one of the most important risk factors for heart attacks and strokes.

Who is at risk?

  • Those with a family history (a brother/sister, father/mother with high blood pressure, heart problems or a stroke),
  • Those with high blood cholesterol levels,
  • Those with diabetes,
  • Those with bad eating habits,
  • Those with a high intake of alcohol (more than two drinks daily),
  • Those who are overweight
  • Those with an inactive lifestyle,
  • Smokers
  • The use of the Pill, steroids such a cortisone and anti-inflammatory drugs can all contribute to higher blood pressure.
