If you get mild heartburn, an antacid bought over the counter could relieve the symptoms. But there are other effective ways of combating the problem without the use of medication.
Take action:
Stop smoking and avoid caffeine; avoid drinking alcohol; say no to fatty and spicy foods; don't overeat; lose weight if you need to; don't eat within three hours of bedtime; raise the head of your bed 10 to 15 cm; avoid pain relievers that could upset your stomach; and speak to your doctor if you're popping antacids regularly – you could be suffering from more than mild heartburn.
