Contact lenses are small, apparently fragile little things. How can you be sure you haven’t inverted the lens before popping it into your eye? Here’s how.
Look closely at the lens: the contact lens

should appear bowl-shaped. If it’s inside out, it’ll look more like a saucer. If you’re myopic (one reason many people wear contacts in the first place), use this test instead:
Place the contact lens in the crease of your hand, making sure the hand is dry;
Gently fold your hand;
You should be able to see – and feel – that the edges of the lens point inwards, rather like a clam that’s closed, or a Mexican taco. If the edges face outwards, a bit like an inverted World War One helmet, the contact lens is inside out. Flip it over and insert it.
