Who gets Type 1 diabetes and who is at risk of the disease?
Type I diabetes usually begins before the age of 40, the peak incidence being around 14. Most people who have diabetes have Type 2 diabetes - between 80 and 90 percent.

Who gets Type 2 diabetes and who is at risk?
Certain population groups have a much higher incidence of diabetes than others. But there are also general risk factors to take into consideration.

Insulin resistance and diabetes
There is a rising incidence of type 2 diabetes in the same populations affected by obesity and coronary artery disease (CAD), since type 2 diabetes is also a disease of lifestyle.

Do you have pre-diabetes?
Two different tests are used to find out whether you have pre-diabetes. The first one is the fasting plasma glucose test and the other the oral glucose tolerance test.
