An audiogram is the result of a hearing test. On a pure tone audiogram two qualities of a person’s hearing are shown, namely:

  • the intensity of a sound – how soft/loud a sound is (measured in decibel).
  • the different sounds from low to high frequencies a person can hear (measured in Herz).

The softest intensity a normal hearing person can hear is approximately 0-14dB. Normal speech at a distance of one meter is approximately 60dB, while a loud sound which causes pain or discomfort is 130-140dB.

Identification without follow-up is worthless. A person’s hearing can be determined with a series of tests and never after a single test.
