Evidence suggests...
that the guilt, stress and associated emotions such imagery generates in smokers is so severe that they often need a pick-me-up - ie another cigarette, to calm the nerves.
Hopefully they'll stop the uptake of smoknig by others, though!
art
Evidence suggest that people who smoke do not cause accidents due to having 6 cigarettes, but rather from 6 brandy's and coke. Evidence suggests that idiots are always barking up the wrong tree, by banning cigarette adverts, but openly displaying alcohol adverts. Your children will grow up, much like yourself, and start experimenting with all kinds of alcohol and getting into fights. Later you will rush to hospital, as there was a car crash, involving alcohol. Makes you kinda wonder...
Oh Please
Most of these Anti-smoking ads really make 1 think before having another cigarette but the 1st picture is bollocks.The burning skull at the tip of the 'cigarette'...Ya,take a close look,Thats no cigarette,Thats a Jay!And there's nothing wrong with a nice Mary Jane Joint once in a while :)
@Lamps_8
I seem to remember the artist was inspired by the dangers of tobacco, but even if it's a joint then it still belongs in this gallery. Sorry, but smoking ANYTHING is bad for you, and that most definitely includes marijuana. There's less evidence so far on the negative health effects of smoking dagga (much more research has been done on the tobacco), but increasingly studies suggest it is definitely not the mellow friend many would like it to be. And anyway, a lot of users mix tobacco and dagga.
Brilliant ads!
My father died when I was just a teenager due to emphysema caused through cigarette smoke. I can tell you I had to watch my father suffer to his death, imagine trying to breath through a straw 24/7, organ failure follows to low oxygenation of the blood. So any ads to show people the ills of smoking is good, it's just bad for you, like it or not. If you have a family please stop smoking, it's no fun growing up without a parent.
@Johnny
No, it doesn't really make one wonder. After all, alcohol advertising is starting to come under the same hammer as tobacco. That alcohol is involved in more car accidents and bar fights than tobacco is meaningless. By your logic we shouldn't take any action against anything that causes any sort of harm unless we take the same strength of action against everything that causes any harm all at once.
Doesn't work
I smoke occasionally and I can tell you that not one advert puts me off from smoking completely.
If I want one, I'll smoke one - doesn't matter what pics / advert they show.
It's completely useless - it just looks cool to non-somkers who hate smoking.
The only thing that does help I must add is smoking laws.
I smoke much less since the new tobacco laws and I must
admit, it feels good smoking less.
Hopefully in the near future I will have completely stopped.
TV worse than smoking
I smoke regularly and exercise a lot as well and I am a LOT healthier than most people I know who are unfit and sick a lot because they sit and watch TV all day and never get outside.
Promotion of a better lifestyle is worth far more than trying to scare one off with stupid pictures.
Smoking
Since more people are getting killed and scarred in automobile accidents, one should expect to see pictures of the dead and scarred bodies on the cars. But you don't, do you? I wonder why?
