COPD - Living with COPD
COPD, you and your bedroom
Last updated: Tuesday, December 18, 2007

There are many things you can do to make your life simpler when you have COPD.

Waking up gently. Don't wake up to a screeching alarm clock every morning. It will startle you and start the day off on the wrong foot. Soft music on a radio alarm is probably preferable.

Copy your kitty. Some stretching and relaxing exercises before you get up will help to get your body into gear for the day.

Making your bed. This is a demanding task. You can, however, make half the bed while still being in it. Pull up the duvet or top blanket and sheet up on one side and smooth them out. Get out of the bed on the unmade side. Then finish making the bed.

Duvets are dandy. Making a bed is so much easier with a duvet than it is with blankets and sheets.

Dressing down. Dress as far as you can while you are still sitting down. Leave things like a dressing gown or slippers or underwear or socks and shoes within easy reach.

The top drawer. Put all the things you use most often in the top drawers of shelves, so that you do not need to bend down to pick things up.

It's curtains. Remove all unnecessary heavy drapes or bedspreads. Not only do they mean extra work, but they also gather dust, which could make breathing more difficult.
