Cholesterol - Heart disease risk factors
Biological risk factors
Last updated: Thursday, November 01, 2007
There is generally little you can do to alter this set of risk factors. Being male is in itself a risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD).

This risk increases with age in both sexes, but in women before the menopause, the risk of CAD is much lower than men of the same age. When women reach menopause, that risk approaches and even exceeds that of men.
