I’m worried about administering my child’s asthma medication. He battles to co-ordinate blowing his nose. How is he going to manage inhaling at the correct time? Wouldn’t it better to medicate him with a syrup or tablets?

It make good sense to breathe the medication directly into the airways of the lungs, as this is where the problem lies. However, many younger children are unable to use the inhaler devices corrrectly, even with the special spacer devices.
Fortunately a new and effective non-steroid oral asthma treatment in tablet (chewable) known as Singulair is now available. This does away with the need to use inhaled anti-inflammatory medication in the majority of young children with mild to moderate asthma. - Reviewed by Prof Eugene Weinberg, paediatrician.
