Alzheimer's & Dementia - Memory techniques
Chunking and organisation
Last updated: Tuesday, November 06, 2007
Chunking and organisation is the be-all and end-all for any student. You will remember anything better if you can reduce it with organisation into smaller entities called chunks and then memorise the chunks.

Effective organisational strategies is the secret for the formation of superb chunks.

Many strategies exist and one of the best is called mind-mapping. You build a map of main and subsidiary branches that summarise what you have to learn.

Another application for chunking is to learn in stages and build on previous knowledge. Got that new home theatre sound system with built in everything and vavoom sound! Notice that the remote(s) has a zillion buttons on it and you haven’t a clue as to their function. Try not to learn the function of all the buttons in one sitting with the manual. Instead, learn a few buttons, use it for a while and then add some more to your repertoire.
