While you might not be the type of person who risks losing your front teeth in a bar fight, it may happen that a tooth gets knocked out by a fall. For this reason, it's worth knowing that a tooth can be saved – if you follow the right steps.

Take action:
By holding the tooth on the crown portion, try to stick the tooth back in place; if that is not possible, put the tooth in a container of milk or water and take it (and its owner) to the dentist immediately; do not clean the tooth – just keep it moist; never touch the root of the tooth – this is covered by a very sensitive membrane that is needed if the tooth is to be replaced in the mouth; if the tooth is a baby tooth (known as a primary tooth), it may not need to be replaced in the socket if the child is at a certain age – your dentist will decide if it is necessary to replace the tooth.
