Fingers or toes should always be exposed in order to check on the circulation beyond a bandage. When applying a bandage, and also ten minutes thereafter, check for the following signs that could indicate that the bandage might be too tight:
- you feel a tingling feeling or numbness in your toes or fingers, or you can’t move them
- the tips of the toes or fingernail are cold, or appear blue or pale
- an injured arm has no pulse, or a weaker pulse compared to the other one.
Removing an adhesive bandage painlessly
Soak the area in a mixture of warm water and salt – a ¼ teaspoon of salt to 1 litres of water, or use a cotton bud saturated in baby oil to moisten the adhesive fully.
