Drink at least six glasses of water every day and make sure that you have one of the glasses before you go to sleep – this will help to get rid of uric acid, which contributes to the condition; include tofu (soy bean curd) as protein source in your diet – research suggests that it increases uric acid secretion; your diet should be relatively high in carbohydrates (like bread, rice and pasta), moderate in protein (e.g. tofu) and low in fat; an excess of alcohol should be avoided – total abstinence and avoidance of alcohol may be required in severe cases; and maintain a healthy body weight.
