Could an elderly loved one be risking an osteoporotic fracture? Some people are indeed at greater risk of falling, and injuring themselves, than others.
Take action:
If the following applies to the person, extra precautionary measures to prevent falls should be taken: mental impairment, institutionalisation, gait and balance disorders, weakness and immobility, visual impairment, and a history of falls. If the person uses alcohol or sedatives, antidepressants, antihypertensive drugs or anti-diabetes agents, the risk is even greater.
