The Medihelp-Bruce Fordyce Ultra Marathon will be held on 27 April 2008 at the Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve between Meyerton and Heidelberg in the Vaal Triangle.
Some 1 500 runners are expected at this 14 running of the annual event hosted by the nature reserve and the Sunward Athletic Club. Since no vehicles are permitted on the roads used for the event during the marathon, this could be considered as one of the safest marathons and organisers comment that this is an ideal way to prepare for the Comrades Marathon.

A race with history
The marathon is named after the Comrades Marathon legend, Bruce Fordyce and offers something for the whole family. Apart from the 50 km, those interested in a less exhausting experience can participate in a 10 km. There will be lots of water points to quench your thirst on both these distances and refreshments will be available to visitors as well. Yes – whether you would like to support family and friends participating, or if you just want to break away from the city’s hustle and bustle, you are more than welcome to join us. Entry is free for participants and their supporters.
The Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve is situated between Meyerton and Heidelberg, with roads in immaculate condition and sufficient picnic sites and a swimming pool. The many hills and valleys on and around this 13 337 hectare nature reserve ensure that athletes can indulge in the picturesque nature, wild life (including duikers, steen buck, oribi's, eland, springbuck, oryx, wildebeest and zebras) and bird life (more than 200 species) whilst they compete.
Another advantage is that there is always a cool mountain breeze that makes it even easier for athletes to participate in these ideal weather conditions. If you are an athlete or a nature lover you should not miss this marathon. Both the start and finishing points are at the Kareekloof Protea Hotel.
