Medihelp and the Cape Town municipality were awarded the top places in a consumer satisfaction index survey by the Department of Trade and Industry (dti) on World Consumer Rights Day.

The gala dinner, during which the awards were presented, was held at the dti campus. The keynote address was delivered by the Minister of the Department of Trade and Industry, Mr Mandisi Mphalwa.
This survey was restricted to municipalities and medical schemes.
Customer satisfaction surveyed
Medihelp emerged as the general leader with the highest satisfaction score and the lowest proportion of dissatisfied customers. Second was the City of Cape Town Municipality, which showed the highest satisfaction levels of the municipalities that were researched.
The research into the medical schemes was done by making random calls to South African consumers, until a number of 250 calls per scheme were logged.
The top schemes that were polled, performed as follows on the customer satisfaction front:
Medihelp – 81
Discovery Health – 79
Medshield – 68
Bonitas – 65
According to the latest available figures, these schemes have the following membership numbers:
Discovery Health – 687 000 principal members (32,1% market share)
Bonitas – 204 000 principal members (11,4% market share)
Medihelp – 105 000 principal members (5,4% market share)
Medshield – 77 900 principal members (4,8% market share)
