The Amayeza Information Centre has launched a new Migraine Help
line to deal with South Africans' headache and migraine queries.
This follows the launch of the migraine patient organisation at the end of 2005 as part of a campaign to reduce the burden of headache disorders and related issues, said a press release from Amayeza.

The help line will give the public access to trained medicine information pharmacists who will offer advice on how headaches and migraines can be treated and where patients can find help.
Globally, headache, including migraine, is the most common neurological
disorder seen by General Practitioners. The World Health Organization
recognises migraine as among the top 20 causes of disability around the
world and the 12th highest cause of disability in women, the statement said.
A right to objective information
"Patients have a right to an objective source of information that can guide them to effective management of their disorders. The Migraine Patient Organisation aims to keep patients abreast of emerging data and treatment options to arrest both the disabling symptoms and life disruption caused by migraine," said Lee Baker, managing director of Amayeza Information Centre.
According to the press release Baker foresees the Migraine Patient Organisation as gathering much needed insights on the incidence and nature of migraine disorders, which will benefit the medical fraternity and ultimately, the patient.
The Migraine Patient Organisation can be contacted on the Migraine Help Line - 0860 678 268 or emailed at - migraine@pharmail.co.za. - (Health24)
