Cristál (Louis Roederer), Bollinger, Taittinger, Moët, Veuve Clicquot, Krug…status wines. 

In many circles, a bottle of one of these at your table is more a show of dominance than any real discernment of the choice of wine. Though the quality of the wine is above reproach, made to represent a House Style that is yearly and painstakingly assembled from a whole array of sites, from multiple vintages, grape varieties (or not), and winemaking techniques, everything to ensure the wine carries a golden thread of flavour, year-on-year.

It is important to understand that champagne is essentially built on blends, taking from various parcels and identities to form the famous whole, from Brut to Blanc de Blancs (mostly 100% Chardonnay) and Nectar. Meant as a commentary on House Style, champagne (the region as a whole), and consistency.
