The risk factors for osteoporosis include being elderly, being of Asian or Caucasian origin, leading a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, drinking lots of coffee, having low body weight, having a family history of osteoporosis, drinking alcohol excessively, having a calcium-deficient diet, never having had children (applies to women), long-term use of certain medications such as corticosteroids, and being oestrogendeficient (women) and testosterone-deficient (men).
