In South Africa, as in the rest of the world, it is essential to slow the pace of the growth of this disease. One way to achieve this is by encouraging people to be screened for diabetes – which can help facilitate an earlier diagnosis and access to appropriate treatment and thereby avoid the devastating consequences of untreated diabetes.
In South Africa, Novo Nordisk is creating awareness of diabetes with activities aimed at highlighting the significant role diabetes screenings may play in soliciting an earlier diagnosis and thereby avoiding the consequences of undiagnosed, untreated or inappropriately treated, diabetes.
The Changing Diabetes Bus
The Changing Diabetes Bus will visit the most popular meeting places of communities to raise awareness of diabetes and to offer free diabetes screening. The types of screening include on the spot blood glucose testing, blood pressure checking and waist circumference measurements.
Novo Nordisk is a healthcare company committed to improving the lives of those with diabetes and in response to the United Nations Diabetes Day resolution, is sponsoring the Changing Diabetes Bus as their contribution to educating the general public on how they can detect and prevent the different types of diabetes.

Send a diabetes postcard
To further raise awareness about the availability of the Changing Diabetes Bus to motivate the general public to spread the message, Novo Nordisk have sponsored 100 000 postcards which will be distributed free at major intersections in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban on World Diabetes Day.
The aim of this project is to inspire recipients to have themselves screened for diabetes – and to motivate one other person to do the same – by posting the postcard to them.
