- Ford South Africa and News24 Motoring collaborated to bring our readers to the Driving Skills for Life course.
- Facilitated by the MasterDrive training director Derek Kirkby and his team, participants learned some priceless lessons to make them safer drivers on our roads.
- Readers also got behind the wheel of the latest Ford Ranger bakkie and Everest SUV models on the 4x4 section of the course.
News24 Motoring partnered with Ford and offered News24 subscribers a chance to attend the Driving Skills for Life safety and 4x4 course on Saturday, 23 March.
Held in more than 36 countries around the world, the Ford Driving Skills for Life course is a unique initiative. While most people would probably expect to go 200km/h around a racetrack, the course is far from that.

Instead, the course provides a step in the learning process, providing new skills and information not currently shared with newly licensed drivers in the primary driver education courses. But it's also an awareness course for more experienced drivers.

The course is free of charge and addresses the inexperience factor of (new and seasoned) drivers, issues surrounding distracted driving, and fuel-efficient driving tips.
The training focuses on five primary driving skills to keep up with new vehicle safety systems and emerging dangers on the road. They include hazard recognition, vehicle handling, speed and space management, and distracted and impaired driving.
