Week 24: 16 weeks to go!
Created: Thursday, April 13, 2006 PrintYour baby is considered viable! If born now, he/she has a chance of survival if it were given special intensive care.
What is happening to your baby:
- Your baby continues to gain weight, consisting mainly of muscle, bone mass and the growing organs and tissues.
- Rapid eye movement has begun.
What is happening to you:
- You may start to experience Braxton Hicks contractions (contraction of the uterus), especially if this is not your first pregnancy. They may last about 30 minutes.
- Be on the look-out for the signs of premature labour.
What to do:
- If you experience more than four contractions during an hour, if they change in intensity and/or they are accompanied by vaginal secretions, see your doctor.
- Read more about when it is false labour or the real thing in the "Stages of labour" section.
