What’s going on
If you’ve been for a sonar scan lately you’ll see that the baby looks like a proper human now. You’ll also be able to tell whether it’s a boy or a girl. This will help you decide what to do with the nursery. It’s best to get it finished some time before the kid arrives, for two reasons. Firstly, things can be pretty busy in the last few weeks of pregnancy, and secondly, you need to allow time for any potentially toxic paint fumes to dissipate before you leave your baby in the room.

What you’re feeling

You’re allowed to feel a little trepidation now, about all the things that can go wrong during pregnancy. You’re also becoming conscious of how long nine months really is, and how much longer there is to go before the baby arrives. But generally it’s a time of relative bliss and contentment. This may also be a time of tussling among well-meaning family members about the baby’s name. Many couples find that lovemaking is particularly enjoyable and fulfilling at this time – make the most of it.

What to do
Speak to your GP about a paediatrician. You need to be completely comfortable with this person, as you’ll be sharing some fairly dramatic and visceral moments with him or her.
