 Tests and checkups
What happens at my gynae check-ups?

During each visit the following will be checked:

  • Urine
  • Growth of the baby
  • Foetal heart rate
  • Maternal weight gain
  • Maternal and foetal wellbeing
  • Possible anaemia

A routine gynaecological schedule consists of the following:

 

First visit

Confirm diagnosis of pregnancy.

Do “booking bloods”: blood group, tests for syphilis, immunity to rubella, Hepatitis B, HIV, haemoglobin, protein in the urine

 

Week 11-13 NT (neucal fold thickness) scan and blood test to detect Down syndrome and early abnormality.
Week 22 Foetal anomaly scan.
Week 26 Check general wellbeing of the foetus (foetus becomes viable).
Week 27-35 Check-ups could be fortnightly or monthly depending on complications or risk.
Week 36-birth Weekly check-ups.
