HIV-positive women have a higher risk for cervical cancer because, at lower CD4 counts, cervix cell abnormalities are more common. Human papillomavirus may cause further cell changes, increasing the risk for cervical cancer.

Take action:
Yearly Pap smears will help your doctor to diagnose and treat abnormalities as soon as possible. Did you visit your gynae or clinic for a Pap smear during the past 12 months? If not, make an appointment without delay.
