Bowlers and fielders especially at professional level, exert such immense force when bowling or throwing a ball, that it requires an equally massive counter force to slow the arm down after the throw.

Shoulder injuries occur when cricketers have not exercised this muscle. A heavy fall can also injure this muscle.
Over the tendon is a small fluid sack called a bursa that lubricates the moving tendon. Shoulder injuries can also result in bursitis, when the bursa becomes trapped and inflamed.
Symptoms
Lifting one’s arm up sideways through a 60 degree arc is painful
It hurts when you press the inside front of the upper arm
If the tendon is injured and not the bursa, you will experience more pain when you lift your arm sideways.
What can be done?
Rest until the pain abates
Light, painless mobility exercises are essential to keep full movement in the shoulder
Apply a hot water bottle or use a heat retainer
Take anti-inflammatories
Follow a rehabilitation plan including mobility, stretching and strengthening exercises drawn up by a specialist
If you have bursitis the doctor can stick a needle into the bursa and suck out the excess fluid
