Preventing sports injuries
The second World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention will be held at the Oslo Sports Trauma Research Centre in Norway in June 2008, according to a statement from the organisers.

The 1st World Congress on Sports Injury Prevention was held in Oslo, Norway in June 2005. More than 600 delegates from 55 countries gathered for the first time to share information on sports injury prevention and discuss the state of the art, the statement said.

"Although major research advances have been made in sports medicine, until recently the focus has been almost exclusively on the treatment of injuries, both for the elite and amateur athlete," said Dr Fredrik Bendiksen, president of the organising committee.

"The 2nd World Congress will provide the world's leading sports medicine experts with an opportunity to present their work to an international audience made up of physicians, therapists, scientists and coaches," he said.

Tromsø is located well above the Arctic Circle, which means that the sun will never set on the congress participants during the event in June 2008. – (Health24)
