New finish for Big Walk
The finish venue for the 2005 Cape Times FNB Big Walk has moved to a bigger, better location, according to a press release from the organisers.

"The new venue is Rhodes High School and St Georges Grammar School in Mowbray, which is a bigger and better space, allowing for more post-walk celebration to keep the whole family entertained," the press release said.

The new finishing venue will have hospitality tents, music, entertainment, food stalls and much more, so that participants can celebrate in style and supporters will be entertained while awaiting their friends and family. Parking will be available on part of the fields for early arrivals and there is plenty more parking available along Liesbeek Parkway.

The new venue comes as a response from the Cape Times FNB Big Walk organisers to accommodate the ever-increasing participation levels while also trying to enrich the experience for participants and family members alike.

A great family day
"We want to offer a great day out for the whole family", says Event Director, Anton Groenewald. "There will be plenty on offer at the finishing line so everyone gets to feel like a winner".

Furthermore, participation in the Cape Times FNB Big Walk will remain accessible to more families as the organisers have responded to public opinion and decided to drop the entry fee for the event to 2003 prices.

For Juniors, the entry fees are R10 per junior entrant for the non-timed 5km walk, R30 for the 10km and 15km non-timed categories and R40 for the timed category. The entry fees for adults will now be between R20 and R40 per adult (entering in the non-timed categories) and R50 per adult (entering in the timed distance category).

Family tradition since 1903
"The 2005 Cape Times FNB Big Walk has been a family tradition in Cape Town since 1903 and this year sees great prizes on offer; from Canal Walk shopping vouchers and New Balance walking gear, to a year's supply of Coca-Cola and Powerade - this means there are in excess of R 100 000 worth of prizes," the organisers said.

The proceeds of this year's Cape Times FNB Big Walk will go to the South African Guide-Dogs Association and Habitat for Humanity, whilst the proceeds from the BIBO Little Big Walk will go to the Nceduluntu Sanctuary and Educare Centre. These funds are managed by the Spartan Harriers Club and the Rotary Club of Rondebosch.
