Scuba diving exposes your lungs to a high-pressure environment, whereas airplane travel is a low-pressure atmosphere. This dramatic change in pressure carries the risk for arterial gas embolism, which is a dangerous condition caused by air bubbles that escape from your lungs and get into your arteries.
