Important factors such as weather, depth, dive time and the type of underwater activity should be taken into account when searching for the best diving spot. Sea conditions are also obvious factors that should be taken into account. A good swell, and very little current and wind are favourable conditions for divers.

Shipwrecks lure sea-life
Leisure divers who seek out an abundance of underwater life should dive in marine protected areas, or near shipwrecks. In the Western Cape, the western coastline is known to have the best visibility. This is because cold water wells up from the deep, after offshore southerly winds have blown the surface water away. False Bay has fairly good visibility, especially in small bays and reefs of the southern peninsula.
Surprisingly, overcast conditions improve diving visibility to quite a large extent, as less light reflects off particles in the water.
