Cross trainers were initially made of leather and synthetic overlays and became “the” fashion athletic shoe in the ‘90s but have waned in popularity. As a type of “hybrid” model they provide some of the features needed for a range of activities but not the ideal or ultimate requirements, hence better used on an occasional basis. For example, cross trainers have less cushioning than running shoes and the soles are less durable on tennis courts.
