Although not common, chest (thoracic) injuries can occur in soccer.

Injuries include rib contusions, rib fractures, costochondral separation and dislocation, sternum fracture, muscle injuries, injuries to the lungs, heart contusions and even sudden death syndrome.

All of these injuries demand immediate medical attention.
