Why not eat loads of meat?
To develop muscle strength, players do not necessarily need to consume large quantities of meat. Eating a lot of meat is unhealthy because of the large amount fat it contains. Although fat contains more than twice as much energy as carbohydrates, fatty food increases the risk of heart disease and obesity.

"Eating fat crowds out the opportunity to obtain nutrients from healthier sources," says dietitian Shelley Meltzer, a consultant from the Sports Science Institute.
When to bring out the braai-meat
The type, frequency, and duration of exercise can affect protein requirements of cricket players. If players are doing strength training, they may need more protein due to the degradation of muscle proteins. Players recovering from injuries may need to slightly increase their protein intake.
