So you are keen to run and achieve a major feat i.e. complete a half-marathon! Running is a great way to get fit, shape up and meet new people. Why not select an attractive 21.1km for which to train?

You will do two weeks of walking before embarking on a walk/run programme, so make sure that you are up to it!

Tips:

  • When you start running, do so at a very slow pace!
  • Choose safe areas in which to run and don’t exercise in the dark.
  • Carry a "self-defence" type spray and preferably run with a friend.
  • Measure your heart rate in the middle of you run, and then immediately afterwards (click here for instructions on how to do this).
  • Stretch immediately after your run, whilst your muscles are still warm.
  • Click on running in "Get Sporty" in the Fitness section for more motivation to run!
