 Lower abdominal strain
This strain usually has a gradual onset and is commonly found in sports that require twisting and turning, such as rugby. Play may continue through the injury, but it becomes progressively more troublesome.

Causes
A strain is caused by twisting or pulling the muscle. A chronic strain, like an abdominal strain is usually the result of overuse - prolonged, repetitive movement of the abdominal muscle.

It can also be caused by a single violent force to the muscles, during a collision or sudden twist.

Symptoms

  • Pain during sprinting (not jogging), twisting and turning, kicking a ball long distances and sometimes when coughing or sneezing.
  • Prolonged sitting or overuse can cause stiffness.
