Van der Westhuyzen has brilliant vision, silky skills and a considerable speed, combined with a fine kicking boot. He also plays fullback, but it is believed that his best position is flyhalf.
Springboks' backline coach Allister Coetzee says of Van der Westhuyzen: "Jaco does not get the recognition he deserves. He is not just one of our key players, but he means a lot to the players around him. He leads by example."
