It's like a Grand Prix pit stop. People flail away at machines, obeying red and green lights and harsh buzzers. But circuit training is a dynamite way to get fit quickly and lose the holiday lard.

That's because the weights machines (sorry, apparatus) enable you to target muscle groups and build strength and stamina, while their variety prevents boredom setting in.

The happy interludes of stepping up and down on a bunch will keep your heart rate up, building your aerobic fitness.

Get an instructor to show you all the weights at least once, or enlist the help of a patient but fit partner. You might also choose to have a workout custom-made for you.
