To a newcomer this can be very intimidating. All those mountains of muscle strutting about, lifting weights the size of Crete once every half an hour.

And yes, there may come a time when you'll want to bench-press your car. But for now, get a staff member to show you the basics.

You'll benefit particularly from learning how to do lunges, dumbbell pec flys, triceps bench dips, biceps curls and dumbbell upright rows in particular. But be careful - if you're too enthusiastic by doing these exercises with weights that are too heavy for you, you could end up with a serious injury. Be patient and ease yourself into using the heavier weights in time.

And remember to stretch before exercising.
