Lose any excess body weight; do moderate exercise 3-4 times per week; dont add salt to food at the table; steer clear of salty foods, such as pickles, cured meats and potato crisps; eat more potassium-containing foods, such as potatoes and bananas; limit your intake of alcohol; cut saturated fats (e.g. excess red meat) and trans fatty acids (e.g. brick margarine) from your diet; quit smoking; and ask your doctor whether any medication youre using could be raising your blood pressure.
