When you arrive at a party or a restaurant, order a glass of water immediately to help quench your thirst rather than downing an alcoholic beverage; alternate alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages e.g. after a glass of wine, order a soda; if you are drinking wine, dilute it with some water, sparkling mineral water or a soda to make it last longer; add a few cubes of ice to white wine to make the drink go further; ensure that the mixers you use are low in energy; steer clear of sweet wines and creamy liqueurs; and beware cocktails and party punches they are usually loaded with calories.
