Dr Neil McGibbon BSc(Hons), DClinPsych, CPsychol, AFBPsS (UK)
Dr Neil McGibbon is a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in the mental health needs of adolescents and young adults. He trained in Northern Ireland at the Queen’s University of Belfast during which he completed a specialist elective at Groote Schuur and Valkenberg Hospitals through UCT. Neil worked in the National Health Service in Northern Ireland and London with adolescents for 8 years.
In addition to his BSc (Hons) and Clinical Doctorate degrees he has undertaken further training in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and a course in working with refugee families at the Tavistock Psychotherapy Centre in London.
His special interests include treating PTSD, substance abuse and addiction, adolescent development issues and the mental health needs of refugee families and unaccompanied refugee minors.
He is now in private practice in Cape Town and is registered as a Clinical Psychologist with both the HPCSA and the British Psychological Society. He is also a visiting lecturer at the University of the Western Cape.
